Today we drive 358 miles from Lufkin, TX to just outside of New Orleans. It should be about a 6 hour drive according to Google maps. We'll see. We're staying in Bayou Segnette State Park.

We left Don and Robbie's about 7am to head for New Orleans. We had a beautiful drive through East Texas. There are gorgeous rolling hills and trees that are changing colors. We had breakfast in the Walmart parking lot! It was great! deb fixed breakfast while Rich and I went shopping. Of course when we came back with our purchases we found Deb in a panic! The smoke alarm went off while she was cooking. Since she didn't know why it went off she immediately shut off the generator and waited for us. We crossed the state line into Louisiana and stopped at the Welcome Center. It was a beautiful place right on the water with a terrific view of the bridge and this huge casino. Zeb had a ball running through the grass. I bought my souvenir Christmas tree ornament, we took a few pictures and were on our way.
We drove over miles and miles of bridges built across swamps. We stopped a Love's Truck Stop. They had a casino right in the truck stop. There was an Arby's there too where once again they once again messed up Rich's order.
When we got into New Orleans the Saints game was just letting out so we had bumper to bumper traffic. What an experience. I've been doing most of the driving so I decided that if I can drive through that I can drive anywhere. We proceeded to look for Bayou Senette State Park where we spent the night. We drove through the worst neighborhood to get there. It was so bad I wanted to forget it and go somewhere else. We called the park a couple of times for directions and spoke with the rudest girl! Finally we arrived. It was quite nice but once again not what I expected. We had a waterfront lot but you couldn't see the water. It was too swampy.
Richard built our first campfire!! It was so nice (and useful too). It drove away the mosquitoes!! We ate all the leftovers that Deb and Lou and Don and Robbie had given us.
Tomorrow morning we're set to head for Panama City Beach.

To Day 4
